Weekend Volunteer Opportunities

Immediate volunteer needs are highlighted below in red.  Email volunteer4afac@afac.org to volunteer or for more information.

Be a Weekend Bagger:  This summer, you can help us bag produce donated from local farmers markets. Weekend baggers also bag rice, beans & oatmeal that we buy in bulk and do other chores on Saturdays from 12:30 - 2:30 and Sundays from 1:30-3:30. Children ages 12 and older with close parental supervision can help.

Gleaning
Interested in going on an AFAC "field trip?" Join a gleaning group and pick crops at local farms and orchards. We will be sending out groups every Saturday of the summer and fall. This is a great opportunity for groups and families. Contact Susan Calligari, AFAC's Gleaning Coordinator at masoncal@mac.com for information on how to sign up.

Grocery store pick-ups (no current openings). This is a vital part of our work. Volunteers go in their own vehicles on a scheduled basis to grocery stores in our area to pick up food donations. 60% of the food AFAC distributes is donated.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
   Minimum 3-month commitment requested.

These are some of the many ways you can further our mission here at AFAC. We hope you can join us!

For more information, please contact one of our volunteer coordinators, Puwen Lee or Laura Jackson, at volunteer4afac@afac.org or (703-845-8486).
